“We have sent down in the Quran that which is healing and a mercy to those who believe

May 12, 2007

“We have sent down in the Quran that which is healing and a mercy to those who believe” Suratu Bani Israil 17:82

Healing from Quran is of three types.
1) Legislative effect: This includes eiman (faith) in Allah as not only the Creator but the Sustainer and the Protector (Rabb) . This also includes the benefits of salaa, sawm, khums, zakaa, hajj……………………….

2) Health Guidelines: Health-promoting items from the Qur’an and ahadith of the ma’sumeen include use of honey, olive, fruit, lean meat, avoiding excessive eating, and prohibition of alcohol, pork, homosexuality………..

3) Direct healing effect of Quran: Recitation of Quran by the sick person or for the sick person has shown to have a direct healing effect on the sick person. This most likely uses medical benefits of Echo. Echo of sound is such a powerful force that it has been used to blast off mountains. Now the miniaturized version of Echo is used in medicine to break kidney stones (lithotripsy), and gallstones. Listening to the recitation of Holy Quran, in a study conducted by Dr. Ahmed E. Kadi and Associates, has been shown to lower blood pressure, heart rate, and to cause smooth muscle relaxation. The Prophet (S.A.W.) always stressed reading the Qur’an loudly and not silently by saying “The comparison between a silent reader and a recitor (Qari) is like a bottle of perfume when it is closed and when it is opened.”

How to Perform Salat based on Quranic Verse

Timing and conditions of salat are mentioned in the following verses of Quran:

1- Chapter: 11 , Verse: 114

and keep up prayer in the two parts of the day and in the first hours of the night; surely good deeds take away evil deeds this is a reminder to the mindful

2- Chapter: 24 , Verse: 58

o you who believe! let those whom your right hands possess and those of you who have not attained to puberty ask permission of you three times; before the morning prayer, and when you put off your clothes at midday in summer, and after the prayer of the nightfall; these are three times of privacy for you; neither is it a sin for you nor for them besides these, some of you must go round about (waiting) upon others; thus does allah make clear to you the communications, and allah is knowing, wise

3- Chapter: 4 , Verse: 103

then when you have finished the prayer, remember allah standing and sitting and reclining; but when you are secure (from danger) keep up prayer; surely prayer is a timed ordinance for the believers

4- Chapter: 17 , Verse: 78

keep up prayer from the declining of the sun till the darkness of the night and the morning recitation; surely the morning recitation is witnessed

5- Chapter: 2 , Verse: 238

attend constantly to prayers and to the middle prayer and stand up truly obedient to allah

6- Chapter: 5 , Verse: 6

o you who believe! when you rise up to prayer, wash your faces and your hands as far as the elbows, and wipe your heads and your feet to the ankles; and if you are under an obligation to perform a total ablution, then wash (yourselves) and if you are sick or on a journey, or one of you come from the privy, or you have touched the women, and you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth and wipe your faces and your hands therewith, allah does not desire to put on you any difficulty, but he wishes to purify you and that he may complete his favor on you, so that you may be grateful

7- Chapter: 17 , Verse: 110

say: call upon allah or call upon, the beneficent allah; whichever you call upon, he has the best names; and do not utter your prayer with a very raised voice nor be silent with regard to it, and seek a way between these

8- Chapter: 4 , Verse: 43

o you who believe! do not go near prayer when you are intoxicated until you know (well) what you say, nor when you are under an obligation to perform a bath– unless (you are) travelling on the road– until you have washed yourselves; and if you are sick, or on a journey, or one of you come from the privy or you have touched the women, and you cannot find water, betake yourselves to pure earth, then wipe your faces and your hands; surely allah is pardoning, forgiving

9- Chapter: 4 , Verse: 101

Respect and Kindness to Parents

Respect and Kindness to Parents

Quran in several verse has advised people to treat their parents with respect and kindness. Here are the list of verses in which Quran has explained how to treat parents:

1- Chapter: 46 , Verse: 15

and we have enjoined on man doing of good to his parents; with trouble did his mother bear him and with trouble did she bring him forth; and the bearing of him and the weaning of him was thirty months; until when he attains his maturity and reaches forty years, he says: my lord! grant me that i may give thanks for thy favor which thou hast bestowed on me and on my parents, and that i may do good which pleases thee and do good to me in respect of my offspring; surely i turn to thee, and surely i am of those who submit

2- Chapter: 31 , Verse: 14

and we have enjoined man in respect of his parents– his mother bears him with faintings upon faintings and his weaning takes two years– saying: be grateful to me and to both your parents; to me is the eventual coming

3- Chapter: 29 , Verse: 8

and we have enjoined on man goodness to his parents, and if they contend with you that you should associate (others) with me, of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them, to me is your return, so i will inform you of what you did

4- Chapter: 4 , Verse: 36

and serve allah and do not associate any thing with him and be good to the parents and to the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the neighbor of (your) kin and the alien neighbor, and the companion in a journey and the wayfarer and those whom your right hands possess; surely allah does not love him who is proud, boastful;

5- Chapter: 17 , Verse: 23

and your lord has commanded that you shall not serve (any) but him, and goodness to your parents. if either or both of them reach old age with you, say not to them (so much as) “ugh” nor chide them, and speak to them a generous word

6- Chapter: 2 , Verse: 83

and when we made a covenant with the children of israel: you shall not serve any but allah and (you shall do) good to (your) parents, and to the near of kin and to the orphans and the needy, and you shall speak to men good words and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate. then you turned back except a few of you and (now too) you turn aside

7- Chapter: 6 , Verse: 151

say: come i will recite what your lord has forbidden to you– (remember) that you do not associate anything with him and show kindness to your parents, and do not slay your children for (fear of) poverty– we provide for you and for them– and do not draw nigh to indecencies, those of them which are apparent and those which are concealed, and do not kill the soul which allah has forbidden except for the requirements of justice; this he has enjoined you with that you may understand

this universe was created in six days or six periods

May 12, 2007

It is mentioned in Quran that this universe was created in six days or six periods. This is mentioned in 7 different verses and also explained in details in three other verses.
1- Chapter: 7 , Verse: 54

your guardian-lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne.

2- Chapter: 25 , Verse: 59

he who created the heavens and the earth and all that is between, in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): Allah most gracious: ask thou, then, about him of any acquainted (with such things).

3- Chapter: 57 , Verse: 4

He it is who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is moreover firmly established on the throne (of authority). he knows what enters within the earth and what comes forth out of it, what comes down from heaven and what mounts up to it. and he is with you where so ever ye may be. and Allah sees well all that ye do.

4- Chapter: 11 , Verse: 7

he it is who created the heavens and the earth in six days – and his throne was over the waters – that he might try you, which of you is best in conduct. but if thou wert to say to them, “ye shall indeed be raised up after death”, the unbelievers would be sure to say, “this is nothing but obvious sorcery!”

5- Chapter: 32 , Verse: 4

It is Allah who has created the heavens and the earth, and all between them, in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority): ye have none, besides him, to protect or intercede (for you): will ye not then receive admonition?

6- Chapter: 10 , Verse: 3

verily your lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, and is firmly established on the throne (of authority), regulating and governing all things. no intercessor (can plead with him) except after his leave (hath been obtained). this is Allah your lord; him therefore serve ye: will ye not receive admonition?

7- Chapter: 50 , Verse: 38

we created the heavens and the earth and all between them in six days, nor did any sense of weariness touch us.

Following verse, explain these six periods:

8- Chapter: 41 , Verse: 9

say: is it that ye deny him who created the earth in two days? and do ye join equals with him? he is the lord of (all) the worlds.

9- Chapter: 41 , Verse: 10

he set on the (earth), mountains standing firm, high above it, and bestowed blessings on the earth, and measure therein all things to give them nourishment in due proportion, in four days, in accordance with (the needs of) those who seek (sustenance).

10- Chapter: 41 , Verse: 12

so he completed them as seven firmaments in two days, and he assigned to each heaven its duty and command. and we adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. such is the decree of (him) the exalted in might, full of knowledge.

Based on above three verses, some argues that the duration of creation was eight periods and therefore there is a contradiction in Quran. This is clearly not the case here because in the four days mentioned above, also is include the creation of earth in the first two days. Therefore in summary, based on Quranic verses, God created the earth and this world in the two days. In the next two days, the world was prepared for evolving the life. Afterward, skies and spiritual world were created in the last two days.

Sickness

Sickness

Allah, the Wise, says:

وَ اِذاَ مَرِضْتُ فَهُو يشْفِينِ

(And when I am sick, then He restores me to health)[175]

Imam A’li (peace be upon him) has said:

اَشَدُّ مِنَ الْفاَقَةِ مَرَضُ الْبَدَن

(More calamitous than poverty is the sickness of the body)[176]

Short Explanation:

One of the treasures of Paradise, which reaches a Mu’min in this world, is sickness. If a Mu’min, occasionally and unintentionally, falters and commits sins, God does not like him to return to Him carrying the burden of his sins; He thus afflicts him with illness in order that his sins are forgiven.

A person who suffers from illness, beseeches and supplicates to God to restore his good health and God likes this state of a sick person, for He desires His servant to converse and communicate with Him. At times, God afflicts a person with sickness in order to elevate him in spiritual rank and status.

The best amongst those who are ill is one who exercises patience in this suffering, conceals his pain and desists from complaining about his disease to others until he regains his health and acquires the maximum reward ordained for him.
